DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Rachel was located 
near latitude 21.2 North, longitude 122.3 West. Rachel is moving 
toward the west-northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h), and a generally west 
to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next day or two. 
Rachel is then forecast to slow down before making a sharp turn to 
the northeast by the end of the week.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Gradual weakening is forecast over the next few days.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 979 mb (28.91 inches).

SURF: Swells partly generated by Rachel will build along the coast 
of Southern California and northern Baja California through the 
weekend.  These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and 
rip current conditions.  Please consult products from your local
