DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Rachel was located 
near latitude 20.4 North, longitude 117.9 West. Rachel is moving 
toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h) and a westward to 
west-northwestward motion is expected for the next several days.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher
gusts. Fluctuations in strength are possible over the next day or 
so, with gradual weakening expected thereafter.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles
(220 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb (28.74 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF: Swells generated by Rachel will continue to affect the coast
of the Baja California Peninsula for the next couple of days.
These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip
current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather
