SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nolo was located near latitude 23.4 North, longitude 175.1 West. Nolo is moving toward the west near 20 mph (31 km/h), and this motion is expected for the next couple of days. Nolo should cross the International Date Line by midday Sunday Hawaiian Time. Maximum sustained winds have weakened to near 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts. Nolo is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Fluctuations in intensity are should continue for the next couple of days, before a general weakening trend begins on Monday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 957 mb (28.26 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Large swell associated with Nolo will continue to affect the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument over the next several days. The surf will likely inundate some of the low-lying atolls from Maro Reef to Lisianski Island. Please consult products from your local weather office.
