DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM PDT (1200 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Odalys was located near latitude 17.7 North, longitude 123.9 West. Odalys is moving toward the north-northeast near 5 mph (7 km/h), with a turn to the north expected to occur over the next couple of days. Recent satelllite wind data indicate that the maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts. Odalys is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Further strengthening is possible through tonight. A gradual weakening trend is expected over the weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km).
