DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was
located near latitude 20.6 North, longitude 141.1 West. Karina is
moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h). A turn toward the
west-northwest and northwest is forecast over the next day or two.
 
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph (140 km/h)
with higher gusts. Additional gradual weakening is expected during
the next few days, and Karina is forecast to become post tropical
by Monday.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles
(240 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 978 mb (28.88 inches).
