DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was located
near latitude 20.4 North, longitude 140.4 West. Karina is moving
toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and it is expected to turn to
the northwest over the weekend.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours,
although Karina is expected to remain a hurricane during the next
day or so.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles
(260 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb (28.74 inches).
