DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Marie was located near latitude 19.3 North, longitude 115.5 West. Marie is moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h). A westward to west-northwestward motion is expected through this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast over the next day or so, followed by gradual weakening this weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km). The Mexican Navy Weather Station on Clarion Island recently reported sustained winds of 63 mph (102 km/h) and a wind gust to 88 mph (141 km/h). The estimated minimum central pressure is 976 mb (28.82 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Marie will affect portions of the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula for the next few days and will likely spread northward to Southern California over the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
