DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was located near latitude 19.8 North, longitude 137.6 West. Karina is moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and a turn toward the west-northwestward is expected over the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is expected to continue over the next 48 hours, although Karina is expected to remain a hurricane during the next day or two. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km).
