DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was
located near latitude 19.8 North, longitude 137.6 West. Karina is
moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and a turn toward 
the west-northwestward is expected over the next couple of days.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Weakening is expected to continue over the next 48 hours, 
although Karina is expected to remain a hurricane during the next 
day or two.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 969 mb (28.62 inches).
