DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was
located near latitude 19.6 North, longitude 135.7 West.  Karina is
moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this
general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days, 
with a more northwestward motion by this weekend.
 
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 120 mph (195 km/h) 
with higher gusts.  Karina is a category 3 hurricane on the 
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Gradual weakening is forecast 
during the next several days.  However, Karina is expected to 
remain a hurricane for the next couple of days.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 957 mb (28.26 inches).
