DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM MST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Marie was located near latitude 15.5 North, longitude 109.5 West. Marie is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest is expected on Wednesday and that motion should continue through Thursday. Recent satellite wind data indicate that the maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, and Marie is expected to become a hurricane on Wednesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195 miles (315 km) mainly to the east and southeast of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb (29.44 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Marie will affect portions of the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula for the next few days and will likely spread northward to southern California over the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
