DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was 
located near latitude 17.2 North, longitude 124.4 West. Karina is 
moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this motion is 
expected to continue through Monday. A turn toward the 
west-northwest is forecast to begin on Tuesday. 
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 145 mph (230 km/h) 
with higher gusts. Karina is a category 4 hurricane on the 
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional strengthening is 
possible on Monday, followed by fluctuations in intensity through 
the middle part of this week. 
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles
(240 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 942 mb (27.82 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF: Swells generated by Karina will affect portions of the coast 
of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula for the next 
couple of days and will likely spread northward to southern 
California on Monday through midweek. These swells are likely to 
cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please 
consult products from your local weather office.
