DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was located near latitude 12.8 North, longitude 135.7 West. Lowell is moving toward the west near 8 mph (13 km/h). This general motion, along with a gradual increase in forward speed, is expected during the next several days. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is expected during the weekend, and Lowell could become a hurricane by Monday or Monday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) mainly to the west of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
