DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was located near latitude 11.4 North, longitude 133.5 West. Lowell is moving toward the east-northeast near 5 mph (7 km/h). A gradual turn toward the north is expected by Friday, with a westward motion expected by Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is likely during the next several days, and Lowell is forecast to become a hurricane on Sunday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).
