Tropical Cyclone Discussion
822 WTPA42 PHFO 271436 TCDCP2 Tropical Storm Lala Discussion Number 61 NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI CP012026 Issued by NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 500 AM HST Thu Aug 27 2026 Convection associated with Lala is gradually decreasing, with the central convection comprised of some weak bands to the east of the center. However, ASCAT and OSCAT scatterometer data indicate that the maximum winds remain near 40 kt. The cyclone is moving northward or 350/4 kt. A northwestward motion is expected for the next day or so, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest as Lala becomes embedded in the flow between a low-level ridge to the north and a western Pacific tropical cyclone approaching from the south. This motion should continue until the system dissipates. The new forecast track is similar to the previous track. A combination of cool sea surface temperatures, moderate shear, and dry air entrainment should cause Lala to weaken, and the cyclone is expected to lose its organized convection and become post-tropical between 24-36 h. The remnants of Lala are forecast to weaken to a trough between 60-72 h.
