SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Lala was located near latitude 30.3 North, longitude 172.0 West. Lala is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h). A northwestward motion but at a slower forward speed is expected during the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next several days, and Lala's winds could decrease below hurricane force by early Sunday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 976 mb (28.82 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Large surf associated with Lala will affect western sections of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument for the next couple of days. These large waves could inundate some low-lying atolls, especially from Maro Reef to Kure Atoll. NEXT ADVISORY ------------- Next complete advisory at 500 AM HST.
