Interests in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument should
monitor the progress of Lala. Watches will likely be required for
portions of the area early Tuesday.
 
 
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Lala was located 
near latitude 20.4 North, longitude 166.1 West. Lala is moving 
toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion is expected 
to continue through Tuesday. A turn toward the west-northwest then 
northwest is forecast on Tuesday night and Wednesday, followed by a 
turn toward the north on Thursday.
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h) 
with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the 
next day or so. Lala is expected to remain a hurricane for the next 
several days.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches).
