Interests in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument should monitor the progress of Lala. Watches could be required for portions of the area on Tuesday. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lala was located near latitude 20.4 North, longitude 164.3 West. Lala is moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through Tuesday. A turn toward the west-northwest and northwest is forecast on Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Lala could become a hurricane again by late Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 994 mb (29.36 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Large waves generated by Lala will continue to trend down from east to west across the Hawaiian waters, but life-threatening surf and rip current conditions will persist today.
