{"msg": "227\nAXNT20 KNHC 281713\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n1815 UTC Wed Oct 28 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n1700 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nGales and Significant Swell N of Bahamas: A tight pressure \ngradient between a 1034 mb high pressure system over New England \nand a stationary front extending from S of Bermuda to a 1010 mb \nlow in the W Bahamas supports fresh to near gale-force NE winds \nand rough to very rough seas N of the front and W of the low. A\nrecent scatterometer pass confirmed gale-force winds ongoing near\n30N71W. Peak seas are near 14 ft N of the NW Bahamas. Scattered \nshowers and isolated thunderstorms are occurring N of the front \nand S of the front between 65W and 72W. Strong NE to E winds and \nrough to very rough seas will persist N of 28N and W of 65W \nthrough Thu night as the low pressure moves southwestward and the \nfront weakens. Mariners are urged to remain alert to these \ndangerous marine conditions and take the necessary precautions to \navoid these affected areas. \nPlease, see the latest NWS High Seas Forecast issued by the \nNational Hurricane Center at website \nhttps:www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFAT2.shtml for further details. \n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough reaches the Atlantic through the coast of\nGuinea-Bissau near 12N16W and continues to 08N23W. The ITCZ \nextends from 08N23W to 09N60W. Scattered moderate to isolated \nstrong convection is observed from 03N to 12N and between 29W and\n59W.\n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nHigh pressure over New England extends a ridge across the Gulf \nwaters. The pressure gradient between the ridge and low pres over \nthe Bahamas is supporting moderate to locally strong NE winds E \nof 90W. Moderate to locally rough seas are over these waters. \nGentle to moderate winds and moderate seas are found west of 90W.\nFor the forecast, a tight pressure gradient between a 1032 mb \nhigh pressure system over New England and a complex weather system\nover the Cay Sal area of the Bahamas will continue to support \nfresh to strong NE to E winds and rough seas in the E Gulf into \nlate this week. Winds and seas will gradually diminish into Sat as\nthe ridge slides eastward. Looking ahead, another robust high \npressure system will reach New England late this weekend and early\nnext week allowing winds and seas to increase in the NE Gulf. \nElsewhere, gentle to moderate winds and moderate seas will prevail\nthrough the forecast period. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nA surface trough in the central Caribbean supports scattered \nshowers and isolated thunderstorms continue to affect the waters from\nnorthern Colombia to E Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Generally dry \nconditions prevail elsewhere. A weak pressure gradient allows for \nmoderate or weaker winds and slight to moderate seas.\nFor the forecast, a surface trough extends southward across \ncentral Cuba into the Caribbean along 80W. The trough will drift \nwestward and weaken over the next couple of days. Ample tropical \nmoisture and upper-level divergence support scattered showers and \nisolated thunderstorms over the central Caribbean. Otherwise, \nmoderate to locally fresh trade winds in the E Caribbean will \ncontinue over the next few days, gradually extending westward \nthrough the week and into the upcoming weekend. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nPlease see the Special Features section above for information on\nsignificant swell causing very rough seas north of the Bahamas.\nE of 70W, the tropical Atlantic is dominated by a broad subtropical\nridge that supports moderate or weaker winds and moderate seas across\nareas N of 20N. Moderate to fresh trades and moderate seas \nprevail S of 20N.\nFor the forecast west of 55W, a tight pressure gradient between a\n1034 mb high pressure system over New England and a stationary \nfront extending from SE of Bermuda to a 1010 mb low in the Cay Sal\narea of the Bahamas supports strong to gale-force NE winds and \nrough to very rough seas north of the front. Scattered showers and\nisolated thunderstorms are occurring east of the Bahamas. Strong \nNE to E winds and rough to very rough seas will persist N of 28N \nand W of 65W through Thu night as the low pressure moves \nsouthwestward and the front weakens. Looking ahead, weak low \npressure will develop southwest of Bermuda by Fri, then lift \nnortheastward and reinforce the frontal boundary over the waters \nbetween the central Bahamas and Bermuda. Expect fresh to strong \nNE-E winds and seas to 10 ft N of the front through early next \nweek.\n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1222695994731200519", "issued": "2026-10-28T18:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1222695994731200519"}
