{"msg": "817\nAXNT20 KNHC 280930\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n1215 UTC Wed Oct 28 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n0925 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nSignificant Swell N of Bahamas: A tight pressure gradient between\na 1035 mb high pressure system over New England and a stationary \nfront extending from SE of Bermuda to a 1011 mb low in the NW \nBahamas supports fresh to near gale-force NE winds and rough to \nvery rough seas N of the front and W of the low. Peak seas are\nnear 17 ft N of the NW Bahamas. Scattered showers and isolated \nthunderstorms are occurring N of the front and S of the front \nbetween 65W and 72W. Strong NE to E winds and rough to very rough \nseas will persist N of 28N and W of 65W through Thu night as the \nlow pressure moves southwestward and the front weakens. Mariners \nare urged to remain alert to these dangerous marine conditions and\ntake the necessary precautions to avoid these affected areas. \nPlease, see the latest NWS High Seas Forecast issued by the \nNational Hurricane Center at website \nhttps:www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFAT2.shtml for further details. \n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough reaches the Atlantic through the coast of\nGuinea-Bissau near 12N16W and continues to 11N20W. The ITCZ \nextends from 11N20W to 08N37W and to 08N54W. Scattered moderate \nto isolated strong convection is observed from 03N to 12N and between\n22W and 53W.\n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nHigh pressure over New England extends a ridge across the Gulf \nwaters. The pressure gradient between the ridge and low pres over \nthe Bahamas is supporting moderate to locally strong NE winds E \nof 90W. Moderate to locally rough seas are over these waters. \nGentle to moderate winds and moderate seas are found west of 90W.\nFor the forecast, the aforementioned pressure gradient will \ncontinue to support fresh to strong NE to E winds and rough seas \nin the E Gulf into late this week. Winds and seas will gradually \ndiminish into Sat as the ridge slides eastward. Looking ahead, \nanother robust high pressure system will reach New England late \nthis weekend and early next week allowing winds and seas to \nincrease in the NE Gulf. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate winds and \nmoderate seas will prevail through the forecast period. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continues to affect\nthe central Caribbean waters, extending from northern Colombia to\nE Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Generally dry conditions prevail\nelsewhere. A weak pressure gradient allows for moderate or weaker\nwinds and slight to moderate seas.\nFor the forecast, a surface trough along 80W will drift westward \nand weaken over the next couple of days. Ample tropical moisture \nand upper-level divergence support scattered showers and isolated\nthunderstorms over the central Caribbean, especially over the \nDominican Republic. Otherwise, moderate to locally fresh trade \nwinds in the E Caribbean will continue over the next few days, \ngradually extending westward through the week and into the \nupcoming weekend.\n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nPlease see the Special Features section above for information on\nsignificant swell causing very rough seas north of the Bahamas.\nE of 70W, the tropical Atlantic is dominated by a broad subtropical\nridge that supports moderate or weaker winds and seas of 4-8 ft. \nFor the forecast west of 55W, looking ahead, weak low pressure \nwill develop southwest of Bermuda by Fri, then lift northeastward \nand reinforce the frontal boundary over the waters between the \ncentral Bahamas and Bermuda. Expect fresh to strong NE-E winds and\nseas to 10 ft N of the front through early next week. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1222604981812264967", "issued": "2026-10-28T12:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1222604981812264967"}
