{"msg": "034\nAXNT20 KNHC 240404\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0615 UTC Sat Oct 24 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n0330 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nAtlantic Gale Warning: A tightening pressure gradient will develop\nas high pressure builds southward over the western Atlantic and \nlow pressure deepens near the central Bahamas along a trough or \ndeveloping frontal boundary. This synoptic setup is expected to \ninduce widespread fresh to strong NE to E winds and rough to very \nrough seas, with winds likely reaching gale-force over much of the\nwaters north of 27N and W of 60W Sat night through Sun night. \nMariners are urged to remain alert to these dangerous marine \nconditions, and take the necessary precautions to avoid the \naffected areas. \nPlease, see the latest NWS High Seas Forecast issued by the\nNational Hurricane Center at website\nhttps:www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFAT2.shtml for further details. \nHeavy Rainfall Event in the North Caribbean: A mid to upper level\ntrough over the northern Caribbean combined with abundant tropical\nmoisture will support periods of heavy rain over eastern Cuba, \nHispaniola, Jamaica, the southern Bahamas, and the Turks and \nCaicos Islands through Mon. By mid-week, the trough is forecast \nto weaken while moving eastward into the central Atlantic. Heavy \nrainfall will raise concerns for dangerous and life-threatening \nflash flooding. \nPlease refer to your local weather services and the International\nDesk at the Weather Prediction Center for more information.\n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough extends from the coast of Africa near 12N16W \nto 11N25W. The ITCZ extends from 11N25W to 12N32W, and resumes \nfrom 11N39W to 11N62W. A surface trough is analyzed along 35W from\n10N-20N. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is  \nfrom 05N to 18N and E of 45W.\n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nHigh pressure over the eastern United States extends a ridge over \nthe western Gulf waters. The pressure gradient between this ridge\nand a trough over the Caribbean is supporting moderate winds, and\nmoderate seas, E of 94W. Gentle winds, and slight to moderate\nseas, prevail W of 94W.\nFor the forecast, the broad ridge will continue supporting moderate\nto fresh NE to E winds across most of the Gulf region, except \nlocally strong E of 84W. A tightening pressure gradient between \nthe high pressure and low pressure forecast to deepen near the \ncentral Bahamas will bring fresh to strong NE winds and rough seas\nover the eastern Gulf, including the Florida Straits, beginning \nlater tonight through early next week. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nPlease see the Special Features section above for information\nabout the potential for heavy rainfall over eastern Cuba, \nHispaniola, and Jamaica.\nAn upper level trough over the eastern Gulf of America and NW \nCaribbean supports scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms\nover the north-central Caribbean and Windward Passage. A broad\ntrough extends across the central and SW Caribbean, with light \nwinds and slight to moderate seas west of 76W. Moderate to fresh \nwinds and moderate seas prevail E of 76W.\nFor the forecast, the scattered to numerous showers and \nthunderstorms over the north-central Caribbean and Windward \nPassage will prevail through Sun night. Light winds and slight to\nmoderate seas will prevail across the central and SW Caribbean \nwest of 76W through Sat, and moderate to fresh E to SE winds and \nmoderate seas are expected east of 76W. Fresh N to NE winds will \ndevelop across the western Caribbean, with building seas west of \n80W early next week as high pressure builds north of the area. \nExpect rough seas and large N swell across the Yucatan Channel Mon\nand Tue. Little change is expected elsewhere. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nPlease see the Special Features section above for information\nabout a Gale Warning over the western Atlantic, and a heavy rain\nevent over the southern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.\nA surface trough extends from 29N68W to low pres near 24N72W to\n20N74W. Numerous moderate and scattered strong convection is \nwithin 150 nm southeast of the trough and west of 61W. Moderate \nwinds, and moderate to rough seas are west of the trough. Another \ntrough extends from 31N53W to 28N58W. Scattered showers are noted \nwithin 90 nm east of the trough. Fresh to strong winds, and rough\nseas, are within 90 nm east of the trough and N of 29W. Fresh to \nstrong winds are between the Cabo Verde Islands and western \nAfrica, where rough seas are noted. Moderate to fresh winds, and \nmoderate seas, are elsewhere east of 50W. Gentle to moderate \nwinds, and moderate seas, prevail elsewhere. \nFor the forecast west of 55W, large northerly swell across the \nforecast waters W of 65W and NE of the Bahamas will gradually \nsubside tonight through early Sat. A tightening pressure gradient\nwill develop across the northwestern zones tonight as high \npressure builds southward over the western Atlantic, and low \npressure deepens near the central Bahamas south of a cold front \nmoving slowly southward into the area. This setup is expected to \ninduce widespread fresh to strong NE to E winds and rough to very \nrough seas, with winds reaching gale-force over much of the waters\nnorth of 28N and between 60W and 75W early Sun through Sun night.\nMariners are urged to remain alert to these dangerous marine \nconditions, and take the necessary precautions to avoid the \naffected areas. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1221408510607163394", "issued": "2026-10-24T06:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1221408510607163394"}
