The\npost-tropical cyclone is moving toward the north-northeast near 36\nmph (57 km/h) and this motion is expected to persist as Rachel moves\nonshore over northern Baja California tonight. Rachel is forecast to\ndissipate shortly thereafter early Sunday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts.\nSlow weakening is forecast, and Rachel is expected to dissipate over\nthe southwestern U.S. on Sunday.\n \nTropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km)\nfrom the center.\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Rachel can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP3 and WMO header WTPZ43 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected to occur over portions\nof the Baja California Peninsula within the Tropical Storm Warning\narea tonight and continue into Sunday morning. Tropical storm\nconditions are also possible within the Tropical Storm Watch area in\nextreme Southern California, eastern Baja California, and portions\nof northwest Mexico beginning tonight or early Sunday. Strong gusty\nwinds associated with the system are expected to spread over\ninterior portions of the Southwest United States, especially in\nareas of higher terrain, tonight through early next week.\n \nRAINFALL: Rachel will bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to portions of\nBaja California this weekend.\n \nRachel and its associated moisture will also bring rainfall of 1 to\n3 inches, with maximum amounts locally up to 5 inches in portions of\nthe Southwest United States this weekend. This will lead to\nincreasing coverage of rainfall and potential for significant flash\nand urban flooding.\n \nFor a complete depiction of forecast rainfall associated with\nRachel, please see the National Weather Service Storm Total Rainfall\nGraphic available at hurricanes.gov/graphics_ep3.shtml?rainqpf and\nthe Flash Flood Risk graphic at\nhurricanes.gov/graphics_ep3.shtml?ero.\n \nSURF: Waves generated by Rachel will continue to build along the\ncoasts of Southern California and northern Baja California this\nweekend. These waves, combined with an incoming long-period\nsoutherly swell, will cause life-threatening surf and rip current\nconditions. Coastal flooding and erosion are expected to worsen\ntonight into Sunday morning as the highest waves coincide with the\nhigh tides and water levels that are already running well above\npredicted levels. Moderate to major coastal flooding is expected,\nwith hazardous coastal conditions continuing into early next week.\nPlease consult products from your local weather office.\n \n \nNEXT ADVISORY\n-------------\nNext intermediate advisory at 1100 PM PDT.\nNext complete advisory at 200 AM PDT.\n \n"}
