Significant wind impacts and\nlife threatening storm surge will remain through late tonight. The\nstrongest winds will occur near and just to the east of the center,\nand storm surge inundation of 5 to 7 feet above normally dry ground\nwill persist along the coast of the western Florida panhandle.\nPotential impacts from these winds include numerous downed trees and\npower lines, significant power outages, and some roof damage.\n\nAdditional rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with localized amounts of\n6 inches are possible east of the Alabama River. Areas of flooding are\nlikely if the higher amounts are realized, with considerable impacts\npossible.\n\nPOTENTIAL IMPACTS\n-----------------\n\n* WIND:\nProtect against life-threatening wind having possible devastating \nimpacts across the western Florida Panhandle and south central Alabama.\nPotential  impacts in this area include:\n    - Structural damage to sturdy buildings, some with complete roof \n      and wall failures. Complete destruction of mobile homes. Damage \n      greatly accentuated by large airborne projectiles. Locations \n      may be uninhabitable for weeks or months.\n    - Numerous large trees snapped or uprooted along with fences and \n      roadway signs blown over.\n    - Many roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban \n      or heavily wooded places.\n    - Widespread power and communications outages.\n\nAlso, protect against life-threatening wind having possible limited \nto extensive impacts across inland southeast Mississippi and southwest\nAlabama.\n\n* SURGE:\nProtect against life-threatening surge having possible significant \nimpacts across the coastal portions of the western Florida panhandle \nand Alabama. Potential impacts in this area include:\n    - Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by \n      waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast.\n    - Sections of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads become \n      weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low \n      spots.\n    - Major beach erosion with heavy surf breaching dunes. Strong and \n      numerous rip currents.\n    - Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. \n      Several small craft broken away from moorings, especially in \n      unprotected anchorages.\n\n* FLOODING RAIN:\nProtect against life-threatening rainfall flooding having possible \nextensive impacts across south central Alabama and the western Florida\npanhandle. Potential impacts include:\n    - Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues.\n    - Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks in \n      multiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may \n      become dangerous rivers. Flood control systems and barriers may \n      become stressed.\n    - Flood waters can enter many structures within multiple \n      communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washed \n      away. Many places where flood waters may cover escape routes. \n      Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water with \n      underpasses submerged. Driving conditions become dangerous. \n      Many road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out.\n\nProtect against dangerous rainfall flooding having possible limited \nto significant impacts across interior southeast Mississippi.\n\n* TORNADOES:\nLittle to no impacts are anticipated at this time across the area.\n\nPRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS\n----------------------------------\n\n* EVACUATIONS:\nFollow the advice of local officials.\n\n* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:\nIt is important to remain calm, informed, and focused during an \nemergency. Be patient and helpful with those you encounter.\n\nRapidly rising flood waters are deadly. If you are in a flood-prone \narea, consider moving to higher ground. Never drive through a flooded \nroadway.
