Winds will gust as high as 50 to \n60+ mph late tonight through Saturday, resulting in the potential for \nwidespread downed trees and power lines. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 4 \ninches with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches will result in the \npotential for flash flooding, especially in urban and other poor \ndrainage areas. Isolated tornadoes may develop across portions of \nCentral Alabama, mainly east of Interstate 65. Eastern portions of the \nstate are in a level 1 to 2, out of 5 severe risk to account for this \nactivity.\n\nPOTENTIAL IMPACTS\n-----------------\n\n* WIND:\nProtect against dangerous wind having possible significant impacts \nacross Central Alabama. Potential impacts in this area include:\n    - Some damage to roofing and siding materials, along with damage \n      to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds. A few buildings \n      experiencing window, door, and garage door failures. Mobile and \n      manufactured homes damaged, especially if unanchored. Unsecured \n      lightweight objects become dangerous projectiles.\n    - Several large trees snapped or uprooted. Several fences and \n      roadway signs blown over.\n    - Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban \n      or heavily wooded places.\n    - Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent \n      in areas with above ground lines.\n\nAlso, protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts \nacross Central Alabama.\n\n* FLOODING RAIN:\nPrepare for dangerous rainfall flooding having possible significant \nimpacts across Central Alabama. Potential impacts include:\n    - Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and \n      rescues.\n    - Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter \n      currents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially \n      in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, and ditches \n      overflow.\n    - Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. \n      Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid \n      inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage \n      areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as \n      storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions \n      become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures.\n\n* TORNADOES:\nProtect against a dangerous tornado event having possible significant \nimpacts across eastern portions of Central Alabama. Potential impacts \ninclude:\n    - Several places may experience tornado damage with a few spots \n      of considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures.\n    - Locations could realize roofs torn off frame houses, mobile and \n      manufactured homes demolished, large trees snapped or uprooted, \n      and vehicles tumbled. Dangerous projectiles can add to the toll.\n\nElsewhere across Central Alabama, little to no impact is anticipated.\n\nPRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS\n----------------------------------\n\n* EVACUATIONS:\nFollow the advice of local officials.\n\n* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:\n\nNow is the time to check your emergency plan and emergency supplies \nkit and take necessary actions to protect your family and secure your \nhome or business.\n\nWhen making safety and preparedness decisions, do not focus on the \nexact forecast track since hazards such as flooding rain, damaging \nwind gusts, and tornadoes extend well away from the center of the \nstorm.\n\nIf in a place that is vulnerable to high wind, such as near large \ntrees or in a mobile or manufactured home, plan to move to safe \nshelter.\n\nIf you live in a place particularly vulnerable to flooding, such as \nin a low-lying or poor drainage area, in a valley, or near an already \nswollen river, plan to move to safe shelter on higher ground.\n\nAlways heed the advice of local officials and comply with orders that \nare issued. Do not needlessly jeopardize your life or the lives of \nothers.\n\nWhen securing your property, outside preparations should be concluded \nas soon as possible before conditions deteriorate. The onset of \nstrong gusty winds or flooding can cause certain preparedness \nactivities to become unsafe.\n\nCheck on those who may not be fully aware of the situation or who are \nunable to make personal preparations.\n\nIf you are a visitor, know the name of the county in which you are \nlocated and where it is relative to current watches and warnings. If \nstaying at a hotel, ask the management staff about their onsite \ndisaster plan. Listen for evacuation orders, especially pertaining to \narea visitors.\n\nClosely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio and local news \noutlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes \nto the forecast.\n\nThere is a threat from tornadoes with this storm. Have multiple ways \nto receive Tornado Warnings. Be ready to shelter quickly.\n\n\n* ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF INFORMATION:\n- For information on appropriate preparations see ready.gov\n- For information on creating an emergency plan see getagameplan.org\n- For additional disaster preparedness information see redcross.org\n\nNEXT UPDATE\n-----------\n\nThe next local statement will be issued by the National Weather \nService in Birmingham AL around 4 PM CDT, or sooner if conditions \nwarrant.\n\n"}
