Rachel is moving \ntoward the west-northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h), and this motion is \nexpected to continue during the next couple of days. On the forecast \ntrack, the center of Rachel will continue to move away from mainland \nMexico and pass south of the Baja California Peninsula today.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher \ngusts. Rachel is expected to continue strengthening and become a \nmajor hurricane within the next couple of days.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the\ncenter and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles\n(240 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 972 mb (28.71 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Rachel can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP3 and WMO header WTPZ43 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Gusts to tropical-storm force are possible along portions of\nthe coast of southwestern Mexico today.\n \nRAINFALL: Rachel is expected to produce additional rainfall totals\nof 2 to 4 inches, with isolated maximum storm totals of 12 inches,\nacross coastal portions of the Mexican states of Guerrero,\nMichoac\u00e1n, Colima and Jalisco.
