Rachel is\nmoving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h).  A northwestward \nmotion at a slower forward speed is expected during the next day or \ntwo, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest and west later \nthis week.  On the forecast track, the center of Rachel is expected \nto move away from mainland Mexico and south of the Baja California \nPeninsula through Thursday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) \nwith higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is expected during the \nnext couple of days, and Rachel is forecast to become a major \nhurricane by Thursday.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195\nmiles (315 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Rachel can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP3 and WMO header WTPZ43 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Tropical storm conditions will continue in portions of the\nwarning area tonight.  Tropical storm conditions are possible in the\nwatch area later tonight into Wednesday.\n \nRAINFALL: Rachel is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8\ninches, with isolated maximum totals of 12 inches across coastal\nportions of the Mexican states of Guerrero, Michoac\u00e1n, Colima and\nJalisco.
