A warning is typically issued 36\nhours before the anticipated first occurrence of\ntropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside\npreparations difficult or dangerous. Preparations to protect life\nand property should be rushed to completion.\n \nA Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are\npossible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.\n \nAdditional watches and warnings may be required for additional\nportions of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument later\nthis week.\n \nFor storm information specific to your area, including possible\ninland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your\nlocal National Weather Service forecast office.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 800 PM HST (0600 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nolo was located\nnear latitude 22.4 North, longitude 164.2 West. Nolo is moving\ntoward the north near 3 mph (6 km/h). Nolo should move slowly \nnorthward across the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument \ntonight before turning westward by early Wednesday. A generally \nwestward motion is expected through the latter part of the week.\n \nMaximum sustained winds have decreased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) \nwith higher gusts. Further weakening is forecast over the next \ncouple of days, followed by some re-intensification during the \nlatter part of this week.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140\nmiles (220 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 983 mb (29.03 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nWIND: Hurricane conditions are expected within the Hurricane Warning \narea from Nihoa to French Frigate Shoals overnight and into \nWednesday. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the \nTropical Storm Watch area from French Frigate Shoals to Maro Reef by \nThursday.\n \nRAINFALL: Outer bands east of Nolo\u2019s track will produce 3 to 6\ninches of rain across Kauai and Niihau through Thursday. These\nswells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current\nconditions. Large surf associated with Nolo will continue to affect\nthe Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument over the next several\ndays. These large waves will likely inundate some of the low-lying\natolls, especially from French Frigate Shoals to Nihoa.
