The cyclone is now weakening as it moves \nfarther inland and it is estimated that it is now a 55-kt \ntropical storm. Rapid weakening is expected as Polo crosses \nnorthwestern Mexico, and it is likely that the surface circulation \nwill dissipate tonight. A 12-h position is included in this \nadvisory, but it is likely to be the position of a trough or \nvorticity maximum and not a circulation center.\n\nThe initial motion is now 040/18. Polo and its remnants are expected \nto move rapidly northeastward through Wednesday in the flow on the \neast side of a mid-latitude trough over the southwestern United \nStates. This track will bring the system across northwestern Mexico \nand into portions of New Mexico and Texas as it interacts with the \ntrough. This evolution will contribute to heavy rainfall, flash \nflooding, and gusty winds in the southwestern U.S. and southern \nPlains. See products issued by the Weather Prediction Center and \nlocal National Weather Service offices for more information.\n \n \nKey Messages:\n \n1. Tropical storm conditions are expected to spread across \nnorthwestern Mexico near the center of Polo through tonight.\n \n2. Heavy rainfall associated with Polo will continue to impact the \nsouthern and central portions of Sonora today. This rainfall is \nexpected to produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, \nespecially in areas of steep terrain. Moisture from Polo will \nsupport heavy rainfall and flooding potential across the Southwest \nU.S. into the Southern High Plains today into early Wednesday.\n \n3. Even after the surface circulation of Polo dissipates, its low- \nto mid-level remnants may produce strong gusty winds well inland \nover the higher terrain of northwest Mexico, southern New Mexico, \nand far western Texas.\n \n4. Dangerous surf and rip currents are likely to persist along \nportions of the northwest coast of Mexico and Baja California for \nthe next day or so.\n \n \nFORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS\n \nINIT  29/2100Z 29.0N 109.7W   55 KT  65 MPH...INLAND\n 12H  30/0600Z 32.6N 105.7W   30 KT  35 MPH...POST-TROP/INLAND\n 24H  30/1800Z...DISSIPATED\n \n"}
