Polo is moving toward the northeast \nnear 17 mph (28 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue with \nan increase in forward speed today. On the forecast track, will \nmove farther inland over the southern portion of the state of Sonora \nthis afternoon.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher\ngusts.  Rapid weakening is expected as the center of Polo moves \nfarther inland.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90\nmiles (150 km). The Mexican Navy weather station in Guaymas \nrecently reported sustained winds of 44 mph (72 kn/h) and a wind \ngust of 56 mph (90 km/h).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 984 mb (29.06 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area and\npossible in the watch area for a few more hours. Hurricane and\ntropical storm conditions are expected over northwestern Mexico\nnear the center of Polo this afternoon.\n \nA Wind Advisory is in effect for portions of southern New Mexico and\nfar western Texas where strong gusty winds are possible late today\nand tonight in association with Polo\u2019s remnants. Refer to products\nissued by your local National Weather Service Forecast Office for\nadditional information.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 6\ninches across southern and central portions of Sonora with isolated\nmaximum totals of 8 inches. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall\nis expected across Baja California Sur. These swells are likely to cause\nlife-threatening surf, rip currents, and coastal flooding.
