Polo is moving\ntoward the northeast near 10 mph (17 km/h) and this motion is\nexpected to continue along with a significant acceleration this\nmorning. On the forecast track, the core of Polo will cross the \nGulf of California for the next several hours, then move inland \nover southern Sonora late this morning.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher\ngusts.  Little change in strength is expected before Polo makes its \nsecond landfall in mainland Mexico. Rapid weakening is forecast \nlater today when Polo moves well inland over mainland Mexico.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90\nmiles (150 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 981 mb (28.97 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Hurricane conditions will continue across Baja California Sur\nin the warning area during the next few hours, and these conditions \nare possible in the watch area for another few hours. In mainland \nMexico, hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area and \npossible in the watch area beginning in the next few hours.\n \nA Wind Advisory is in effect for portions of southern New Mexico and\nfar western Texas where strong gusty winds are possible late today \nand tonight in association with Polo\u2019s remnants. Refer to products \nissued by your local National Weather Service Forecast Office for \nadditional information.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 6 to 12\ninches across portions of Baja California Sur. Rainfall totals of 4\nto 6 inches with maximum totals of 8 inches is expected across\nsouthern and central portions of Sonora.
