A warning is typically issued 36\nhours before the anticipated first occurrence of\ntropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside\npreparations difficult or dangerous. Preparations to protect life\nand property should be rushed to completion.\n \nA Hurricane Watch may be required for additional portions of the\nPapahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument by Tuesday.\n \nFor storm information specific to your area, including possible\ninland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your\nlocal National Weather Service forecast office.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 800 PM HST (0600 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nolo was located \nnear latitude 19.5 North, longitude 164.2 West. Nolo is moving \ntoward the north-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h), and a turn toward \nthe north is expected tomorrow. On the forecast track, the center of \nNolo will remain well southwest and west of the main Hawaiian \nIslands. Nolo will approach the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National \nMonument on Tuesday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher \ngusts. Nolo is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson \nHurricane Wind Scale. Weakening is forecast over the next couple of \ndays, followed by some re-intensification during the latter part of \nthis week.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150\nmiles (240 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 950 mb (28.06 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nWIND: Hurricane conditions are expected in the Hurricane Warning\narea in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument by Wednesday,\nwith tropical storm conditions likely by tomorrow.\n \nRAINFALL: Outer bands east of Nolo\u2019s track will produce 3 to 6\ninches of rain across Kauai and Niihau between Tuesday and Thursday.\nThis rainfall could produce areas of flooding and mudslides,\nespecially in areas of steep terrain.\n \nSURF: Swells generated by Nolo will affect south- and west-facing\nshores of the main Hawaiian Islands for the next few days. These\nswells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current\nconditions.  Large surf associated with Nolo will be affecting the\nPapahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.  These large waves will \nlikely inundate some of the low-lying atolls, especially from French \nFrigate Shoals to Nihoa.
