A warning is typically issued 36 \nhours before the anticipated first occurrence of \ntropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside \npreparations difficult or dangerous. Preparations to protect life \nand property should be rushed to completion.\n \nA Hurricane Watch may be required for additional portions of the\nPapahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument later today.\n \nFor storm information specific to your area, including possible\ninland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your\nlocal National Weather Service forecast office.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 800 AM HST (1800 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nolo was located \nnear latitude 17.4 North, longitude 162.8 West. Nolo is moving \ntoward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn toward the \nnorthwest is forecast later today, with a turn toward the north \nexpected on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Nolo will \nremain well southwest and west of the main Hawaiian Islands but will \napproach the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument on Tuesday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 155 mph (250 km/h) with higher \ngusts. Nolo is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson \nHurricane Wind Scale. A gradual weakening trend is likely to begin \ntonight, followed by faster weakening through the middle of the \nweek.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150\nmiles (240 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 929 mb (27.44 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nWIND: Hurricane conditions are expected in the Hurricane Warning\narea in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument by Wednesday,\nwith Tropical Storm conditions likely by Tuesday.\n \nSURF: Swells generated by Nolo will affect south-facing shores of\nthe main Hawaiian Islands for the next few days.
