A watch is typically issued 48 hours\nbefore the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force\nwinds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or\ndangerous.\n \nA Hurricane Warning may be required for portions of the\nPapahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument later today.\n \nFor storm information specific to your area, including possible\ninland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your\nlocal National Weather Service forecast office.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 200 AM HST (1200 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nolo was located \nnear latitude 16.8 North, longitude 161.9 West. Nolo is moving \ntoward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn toward the \nnorthwest is forecast later today, with a turn toward the north \nexpected on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Nolo will \nremain well south and southwest of the main Hawaiian Islands but \nwill approach the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument on \nTuesday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 155 mph (250 km/h) with higher \ngusts. Nolo is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson \nHurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is expected, and \nNolo could become a category 5 hurricane later today. A gradual \nweakening trend is likely to begin tonight.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150\nmiles (240 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 929 mb (27.44 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nWIND: Hurricane conditions are possible in the Hurricane Watch area\nin the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument by Wednesday, with\ntropical storm conditions possible by Tuesday.\n \nSURF: Swells generated by Nolo will affect south-facing shores of \nthe main Hawaiian Islands for the next few days.
