Watches could be required for a portion of the area\nas early as Saturday.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 800 AM MST (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Polo was located \nnear latitude 17.1 North, longitude 108.5 West. Polo is moving \ntoward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is expected \nto continue through today. A gradual turn to the northwest and north \nis forecast on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a northeastward \nmotion on Monday. On the forecast track, Polo is expected to \napproach Baja California Sur early next week.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 180 mph (285 km/h) with higher\ngusts. Polo is a category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson\nHurricane Wind Scale. Fluctuations in intensity are possible today,\nbut some weakening is expected over the weekend. Polo is forecast to\napproach Baja California Sur as a strong hurricane early next week.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the\ncenter and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles\n(185 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 900 mb (26.58 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8\ninches with maximum amounts of 10 inches across portions of Baja\nCalifornia Sur.
