Polo is moving\ntoward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h). A turn toward the\nwest-northwest is expected later today and Friday, followed by a\nnorthwestward motion on Saturday. On the forecast track, the core of\nPolo is expected to remain offshore of southwestern Mexico today\nbefore moving farther out to sea.\n \nMaximum sustained winds remain near 160 mph (260 km/h) with higher\ngusts. Polo is a category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson\nHurricane Wind Scale. Some near-term strengthening is possible, and \nPolo is expected to remain a powerful major hurricane for the next \nfew days.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the\ncenter and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles\n(205 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 923 mb (27.26 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area\nalong the coast of Mexico during the next several hours. Tropical\nstorm conditions are possible within the watch area along the coast\nof Mexico later today.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 6\ninches, with isolated maximum totals up to 8 inches across coastal\nportions of the Mexican state of Guerrero through today. This\nrainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides,\nespecially in areas of steep terrain.
