A watch is typically issued 48 hours\nbefore the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force\nwinds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or\ndangerous.\n \nInterests elsewhere in the Hawaiian Islands should closely monitor\nthe progress of this system.\n \nFor storm information specific to your area, including possible\ninland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your\nlocal National Weather Service forecast office.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 200 PM HST (0000 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Nolo was\nlocated near latitude 14.6 North, longitude 155.8 West. Nolo is \nmoving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general motion \nis expected to persist into tonight. A sharp turn to the north and \nnorth-northeast is expected on Thursday, with this motion continuing \nthrough the end of the week. On the forecast track, the system is \nexpected to approach the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday and \nSaturday.\n \nMaximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) \nwith higher gusts. Rainfall totals of\n5 to 10 inches with maximum amounts of 20 inches expected across\nMaui. Life-threatening flooding and mudslides possible across Maui,\nespecially in areas of high terrain.
