Polo is stationary, \nbut a sharp turn to the northwest is expected to begin later today \nfollowed by a general west-northwestward motion later this week and \nover the weekend. On the forecast track, the core of Polo is \nexpected to be near the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next \nday or two, although it is forecast to remain offshore.\n \nMaximum sustained winds remain near 165 mph (270 km/h) with higher\ngusts. Polo is a category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson\nHurricane Wind Scale. Fluctuations in intensity are expected, but \nPolo is expected to remain a very powerful major hurricane during \nthe next few days.\n \nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105\nmiles (165 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 905 mb (26.73 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning\narea along the coast of Mexico later today. Tropical storm\nconditions are possible within the watch area along the coast of\nMexico on Thursday.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 3 to 6\ninches, with isolated maximum totals up to 8 inches across coastal\nportions of the Mexican states of Guerrero and Michoac\u00e1n through\nThursday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and\nmudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain.
