Polo is nearly \nstationary, but a generally west-northwestward motion is expected \nover the next couple of days.  On the forecast track, the core of \nPolo is expected to be near the coast of southwestern Mexico through \nthe middle of this week, although forecast to remain offshore.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 165 mph (270 km/h) with higher\ngusts.  Polo is a category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson\nHurricane Wind Scale.  Some additional strengthening is likely \nthrough tonight, with fluctuations in strength possible Wednesday \nand Wednesday night.  A NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft is \ncurrently enroute to investigate Polo.\n\nHurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from\nthe center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90\nmiles (150 km).\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 920 mb (27.17 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Polo can be found in the Tropical Cyclone\nDiscussion under AWIPS header MIATCDEP2 and WMO header WTPZ42 KNHC.\n \nWIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning\narea along the coast of Mexico by early Wednesday.  Tropical storm\nconditions are possible within the watch area along the coast of\nMexico by Thursday.\n \nRAINFALL: Polo is expected to produce rainfall totals of 3 to 6\ninches, with isolated maximum totals up to 8 inches across coastal\nportions of the Mexican states of Guerrero and Michoac\u00e1n through\nThursday.  This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and\nmudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain.
