{"msg": "221\nAXNT20 KNHC 160421\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0615 UTC Wed Sep 16 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n0400 UTC.\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nThe axis of a tropical wave is near 21W, south of 18N, moving \nwestward at 10-15 kt. Scattered moderate convection is from 05N \nto 12N and between 18W and 26W. \nThe axis of a tropical wave is near 60W, south of 20N, moving \nwestward at 10-15 kt. Scattered moderate convection is from 11N \nto 21N and between 54W and 61W. \n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough enters the Atlantic near 13N16W and continues \nto 09N44W. The ITCZ extends from 09N44W to 11N55W. Aside from \nconvection noted in the tropical waves section above, scattered \nmoderate convection is noted within 90 nm on either side of the\nboundaries between 28W and 46W.\n \n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nA stationary front extends from Hernando Beach, Florida to Fort \nWalton Beach, Florida. A pressure gradient prevails elsewhere \nover the gulf waters. Gentle to moderate winds and slight to \nmoderate seas prevail. \nFor the forecast, the stationary front will weaken over the next \ncouple of days as it slowly drifts southward and dissipates by \nThu. A strong ridge over the Eastern United States will support \nfresh to locally strong NE-E winds and rough seas starting in the \nNE Gulf late tonight and spreading over the rest of the northern \nGulf waters through Thu night. Elsewhere, a diurnal trough will \nmove westward offshore the Yucatan Peninsula each evening through \nThu night, bringing nightly pulses of fresh to locally strong NE \nwinds. Conditions will improve across the basin Fri, allowing for \nmoderate or weaker winds and slight to moderate seas during the \nweekend.\n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nFresh to near gale E winds, and moderate to rough seas, prevail \nover the south central Caribbean. Gentle winds and slight seas are\nover the NW Caribbean. Moderate to fresh winds, and moderate \nseas, prevail elsewhere. \nFor the forecast, the pressure will continue to support fresh to \nlocally near gale-force easterly trade winds and moderate to rough\nseas across much of the central Caribbean, with moderate to fresh\ntrades elsewhere from 11N to 18N. These conditions will persist \nthrough the workweek. Elsewhere, moderate or lighter winds and \nslight to moderate seas are expected, except moderate to fresh \nmainly in the evenings near the Windward Passage and Lee of Cuba \nthrough Wed night. Winds will diminish across the basin by the end\nof the week into the upcoming weekend as the pressures gradient \nrelaxes, with seas also slightly subsiding. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nA stationary front extends from near Bermuda to Cape Canaveral, \nFlorida. Moderate to locally fresh winds, and moderate seas, \nprevail N of the front. A surface trough extends from 30N52W to \n26N51W. Scattered moderate convection is in the vicinity of the \ntrough. High pressure dominates the remainder of the discussion \nwaters N of 20N. Light to gentle winds, and slight seas, prevail N\nof 22N and W of 55W. Gentle to moderate winds, and moderate seas \nare found elsewhere. \nFor the forecast west of 55W, the stationary front will shift \nsouthward over the next couple of days and dissipate by Thu. A \ntight pressure gradient between the building ridge over the \neastern United States and the front will result in fresh to \nlocally strong NE winds and seas to build to rough N of the \nBahamas and W of 70W through early Thu. Conditions will improve \nlater Thu into Fri. Meanwhile, a broad upper-level trough over the\nSE Bahamas and Hispaniola will support scattered showers and \nisolated thunderstorms over much of the area over the next few \ndays as the system shifts northwestward.\n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1210653406127685634", "issued": "2026-09-16T06:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1210653406127685634"}
