{"msg": "733\nAXNT20 KNHC 140935\nTWDAT\nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n1215 UTC Mon Sep 14 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through\n0925 UTC.\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nA central Atlantic tropical wave is along 49W, south of 18N, \nmoving westward at 15 to 20 kt. Scattered moderate to isolated \nstrong convection is observed within 120 nm on both sides of the\nwave axis.\nAnother central Atlantic tropical wave is along 51W, south of \n17N, moving westward at near 15 kt. A few showers are found near\nthe wave.\n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough enters the Atlantic along the coast of Guinea \nnear 13N16W and continues to 08N35W to 10N50W. The ITCZ extends \nfrom 10N52W to near 08N61W. Scattered to locally numerous \nmoderate isolated strong convection is present from 04N to 14N and\neast of 45W.\n\n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nA 1018 mb high pressure system over central Florida dominates the\nGulf waters, supporting moderate to fresh E-SE winds and moderate\nseas south of a line from NE Texas to NE Yucatan. Elsewhere, light\nto gentle winds and slight seas prevail. Strong storms are noted\noff Veracruz in the Bay of Campeche and a few showers are\noccurring off western Florida.\nFor the forecast, weak ridging over the NE Gulf will persist into Tue\nsupporting relatively tranquil conditions across much of the basin.\nThe exception will be the Bay of Campeche, where a diurnal trough\nwill move westward offshore the Yucatan Peninsula each evening \nthrough late this week, bringing nightly pulses of fresh NE winds.\nStarting late Tue, stronger high pressure building southward from\nthe eastern United States will lead to increasing NE to E winds \nover the basin, with speeds reaching fresh to strong and rough \nseas over the northern Gulf Wed through Thu night. Conditions will\nimprove Fri. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nMiddle to upper-level low pressure is centered over Haiti, and \npromoting unstable conditions over south and east portions of the \nCaribbean. Multi-layered clouds with scattered showers and a few \nthunderstorms prevail over most of the eastern basin E of 71W, \nacross the Lesser Antilles to 58W. Scattered strong convection is \noccurring across the SW Caribbean south of 16N. \nA tight pressure gradient continues to support fresh to near\ngale-force easterly trade winds and rough seas across much of the\ncentral Caribbean and Gulf of Honduras. Moderate to fresh NE-E\nwinds and moderate seas are occurring in the eastern Caribbean and\nWindward Passage. Elsewhere, moderate or weaker winds and slight \nto moderate seas prevail across the remainder of the NW basin.\nFor the forecast, the subtropical ridge centered north of the\nBahamas and lower pressures in Colombia combine to sustain fresh \nto locally near gale-force easterly trade winds and moderate to \nrough seas across much of the central Caribbean. These conditions \nwill persist through the workweek. Strong winds in the Gulf of \nHonduras will diminish this morning. Meanwhile, moderate to fresh \neasterly breezes are expected over the next several days in the \neastern Caribbean. Elsewhere, moderate or lighter winds and slight\nto moderate seas are expected.\n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nA broad subtropical ridge dominates the SW North Atlantic,\nallowing for light to gentle winds and slight to moderate seas\nacross much of the area, west of 55W. Fresh easterly winds are\nnoted off northern Hispaniola. A surface trough along 47W in the\ncentral Atlantic is producing numerous showers and isolated\nthunderstorms north of 24N and between 41W and 60W. Gusty winds\nand higher seas are likely occurring near these storms. Elsewhere,\nan expansive ridge persists in the central and eastern Atlantic, \nsupporting moderate or weaker seas and moderate seas across the \narea.\nFor the forecast west of 55W, the aforementioned ridge will force\nfresh to locally strong easterly winds off Hispaniola and in the \nWindward Passage tonight. On Tue, strong high pressure building \nsouthward through the eastern United States will bring a cold \nfront into the NW waters, increasing NE winds to fresh to locally \nstrong and causing seas to build to rough N of the Bahamas and W \nof 70W through Thu. Conditions will improve Thu night into Fri. \nDuring the middle to later portion of the week, a trough of low \npressure is forecast to move west-northwestward into the NE \nportion of the waters, bringing thunderstorms. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1210148878457012226", "issued": "2026-09-14T12:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1210148878457012226"}
