Elevated surf will still remain a hazard through the day.\n\n* TORNADOES:\nLittle to no impacts are anticipated at this time across the Hawaiian \nIslands.\n\nPRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS\n----------------------------------\n\n* EVACUATIONS:\nFollow the advice of local officials.\n\n* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:\nWhen going outside be sure to stay away from downed power lines, \nhazardous debris and flooded areas.\n\nIf your home or shelter was damaged, be alert to the smell of gas \nleaks and be cautious around electrical wiring, broken glass, jagged \nmetal and wood, and protruding nails and screws.\n\nCheck in with your emergency points of contact. Let them know your \nlocation and status. Keep conversations short and to the point. Do \nnot tie up communications systems.\n\nCheck on your neighbors. If necessary, help them connect with their \npoints of contact.\n\nDo not attempt to return to evacuated areas until local authorities \nhave inspected roads and bridges and have given the all clear. \nHazards like downed power lines and trees, washed out roads, \ncontinued flooding in low lying areas and non-functioning traffic \nlights make travel difficult. \n\nAllow extra time for emergency vehicles to reach you as they navigate \nroad hazards.\n\nDo not attempt to return to evacuated areas until local authorities \ngive the all clear. Allow time for officials to inspect bridges and \noverpasses and to mark washed-out roads.\n\nWhen entering areas that have been heavily damaged, bring along a \nGPS-enabled device to help with street navigation. Do not drive on \nroads that have been marked closed.\n\nDo not go sightseeing within impacted communities. Sightseers \ninterfere with the emergency work of first responders.\n\nDo not go up on your roof until the weather conditions are safe. \nLadders can be slippery in the rain and unexpected wind gusts can \nblow you off the roof.\n\nWhen clearing out fallen trees, be careful with chainsaws and axes. \nAlways wear protective gear and keep others at a safe distance. \nLeaning trees and those which have fallen on roofs or power lines can \nbe especially dangerous. If you are not in good health or unsure \nabout what you are doing, have someone with tree cutting experience \ndo the job. Never cut trees without a partner.\n\nIf using a generator, avoid carbon monoxide poisoning by following \ninstructions provided by the manufacturer. Operate your generator in \na well-ventilated space outside of your living area and away from \nopen doors and windows.\n\nProblems with sewer backups can further contaminate standing flood \nwaters. Keep children away from flood waters. Also, listen for boil \nwater alerts as tap water may have become non-potable.\n\nBe alert for any lingering wind gusts which could take down weakened \ntrees and/or power lines, collapse damaged structures, or cause \nflying debris.\n\nBe alert for potential flooding from rising rivers and streams which \nmay have yet to crest. Remain informed of the latest river forecasts \nand heed any flood watches and warnings.\n\nBe alert for flooded roads which could be compromised or littered \nwith debris. Avoid travel until water levels subside and roads have \nbeen cleared. Do not drive through places where flood waters cover \nthe road.
