{"msg": "191\nAXPZ20 KNHC 050325\nTWDEP \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0405 UTC Sat Sep 5 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from\n03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and\nfrom the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following\ninformation is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,\nradar, and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through\n0305 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nHurricane Marie is centered near 20.8N 119.0W at 05/0300 UTC,\nmoving northwest at 7 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is\n967 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 85 kt with gusts to 105\nkt. Peak seas are near 36 ft. Numerous moderate to isolated \nstrong convection is present from 18N to 24N and between 115W and\n121W. A general NW motion is expected to continue for the next \nfew days. A gradual weakening trend is expected to begin on Saturday \nand continue for the next several days. Swells generated by Marie\nwill continue to affect portions of the coast of southwest \nMexico, the Baja California Peninsula, and Southern California \nfor the next few days. These swells are likely to cause life-\nthreatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult \nproducts from your local weather office.\nPlease read the latest High Seas Forecast issued by the National\nHurricane Center at website - \nhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFEP2.shtml and the latest \nMarie NHC Forecast/Advisory and Public Advisory at \nwww.hurricanes.gov for more details.\nHurricane Karina is centered west of the area near 20.7N 141.9W \nat 05/0300 UTC, moving west at 8 kt. Estimated minimum central \npressure is 982 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 70 kt with \ngusts to 85 kt. While the center of Karina and most of the wind \nand wave impacts are west of 140W, strong to near-gale force \nwinds along with rough to very rough seas are noted from 18N to \n27N and west of 135W. Most of the convective activity is now west\nof 140W. Karina will continue to move away from the Eastern\nPacific waters during the next several days, allowing winds and \nseas east of 140W to subside through late Sat.\nPlease read the latest NHC Public Advisory at \nhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/HFOTCPCP5.shtml and Forecast/ \nAdvisory at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/HFOTCMCP5.shtml for \nmore details.\n \n...TROPICAL WAVES...\n \nA tropical wave is along 105W, extending from SW Mexico to 04N, \nmoving west at 10-15 kt. A few showers are noted near the trough\naxis.\n...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...\nThe monsoon trough extends from 10N85W to 08N95W to 11N111W. \nScattered moderate to isolated strong convection is occurring \nfrom 03N to 14N and east of 115W and from 08N to 15N and west of\n115W.\n...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...\nPlease see the Special Features section for information on \nHurricane Marie centered southwest of Baja California, Mexico.\nModerate to fresh cyclonic winds and rough to very rough seas \nare affecting the offshore waters of Baja California not directly\nimpacted by Hurricane Marie. The pressure gradient between this \nhurricane and the ridge to the north support moderate southerly \nwinds and slight seas in the northern Gulf of California. \nElsewhere, primarily light to gentle winds and moderate seas \nprevail.\nFor the forecast, Hurricane Marie is near 20.8N 119.0W at 8 PM\nPDT, and is moving northwest at 7 kt. Maximum sustained winds \nare 85 kt with gusts to 105 kt, and the minimum central pressure \nis 967 mb. Marie will move to 21.5N 119.9W Sat morning, 22.4N \n121.0W Sat evening, 23.2N 122.0W Sun morning, weaken to a \ntropical storm near 23.9N 122.8W Sun evening, 24.5N 123.8W Mon \nmorning, and 25.2N 125.1W Mon evening. Marie will change little \nin intensity as it moves to the 27.4N 127.2W late Tue Elsewhere, \nmoderate to fresh NW winds and moderate seas are expected in the\noffshore waters of Baja California early next week. Looking \nahead, the next gap wind event in the Gulf of Tehuantepec may \noccur by the middle of next week.\n...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, \nAND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...\nThe subtropical ridge centered north of the Caribbean Sea forces\nmoderate to fresh easterly trade winds and moderate seas across\nthe Gulf of Papagayo region. Farther south, moderate to locally\nfresh southerly winds and moderate seas are found south of 04N. \nElsewhere, light to gentle winds and 2-4 ft seas prevail. \nFor the forecast, a moderate pressure gradient across Central \nAmerica will sustain fresh E winds over the Gulf of Papagayo into\nearly next week. Thereafter, the gradient may tighten and strong\ngap winds and rough seas may develop. Moderate to locally fresh \nsoutherly winds are expected in the waters between Ecuador and \nthe Galapagos Islands over the next several days, decreasing\nslightly Sun and Mon. Elsewhere, moderate or lighter winds will \nprevail.\n...REMAINDER OF THE AREA...\nPlease see the Special Features section for information about\nHurricane Karina centered west of 140W, and Hurricane Marie \nlocated southwest of Baja California, Mexico.\nAway from the impacts of Hurricanes Karina and Marie, a cross\nequatorial swell region is producing seas to 9 ft south of 07N\nand between 91W and 114W. This was confirmed by a recent\naltimeter pass. Elsewhere, moderate or weaker winds with seas \n5-7 ft are prevalent across the remainder of the tropical \neastern Pacific.\nFor the forecast, Hurricane Marie is near 20.8N 119.0W at 8 PM\nPDT, and is moving northwest at 7 kt. Maximum sustained winds \nare 85 kt with gusts to 105 kt, and the minimum central pressure \nis 967 mb. Marie will move to 21.5N 119.9W Sat morning, 22.4N \n121.0W Sat evening, 23.2N 122.0W Sun morning, weaken to a \ntropical storm near 23.9N 122.8W Sun evening, 24.5N 123.8W Mon \nmorning, and 25.2N 125.1W Mon evening. Marie will change little \nin intensity as it moves to the 27.4N 127.2W late Tue.\nThe cross equatorial swell region west of the Galapagos Islands is\nexpected to diminish below 8 ft Sat night. Meanwhile, an area of\nlow pressure may develop well offshore of southwestern Mexico \nearly next week. Gradual development is possible, and a tropical \ndepression could form around the middle of next week while it \nmoves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph, remaining well offshore\nof Mexico. This system has a medium chance of tropical formation\nover the next 7 days. \n", "title": "Eastern Pacific Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1207528092250898435", "issued": "2026-09-05T04:05:00Z", "wmo": "AXPZ20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1207528092250898435"}
