Lowell is\nmoving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h).  This general motion \nwith a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the \nnext day or two, followed by a turn toward the northwest and north \nthis weekend.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher\ngusts.  Lowell is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson\nHurricane Wind Scale.  Some fluctuations in intensity are expected \nduring the next few days.
