Lowell is moving\ntoward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h). This general motion with a \ngradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the next day \nor two, followed by a turn toward the northwest and north this \nweekend.\n \nReports from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that maximum \nsustained winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts.  \nLowell is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane \nWind Scale.  Some fluctuations in intensity are expected during the \nnext few days.
