Lowell is \nmoving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h). This general motion \nwith a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the next \ncouple of days, followed by a turn toward the northwest and north \nthis weekend.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher \ngusts. Lowell is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson \nHurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are expected \nduring the next few days.
