{"msg": "343\nAXNT20 KNHC 022249\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0015 UTC Thu Sep 3 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n2230 UTC.\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nAn central Atlantic tropical wave is along 42W, south of 21N, \nmoving westward around 20 kt. Scattered moderate convection is \ndepicted from 13N-16N between 38W-43W. \nA well-defined tropical wave in the central Atlantic is along \n59W, south of 23N, moving westward at around 15-20 kt. The wave \nis interacting with an upper-level trough to its west, and \nproducing scattered moderate convection from 19N-23N\nbetween 55W-60W.  \n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough enters the Atlantic from coastal Mauritania\nnear 17N17W and continues southwestward to 10N48W. The ITCZ \nextends from 10N48W to 10N56W. Scattered moderate convection is \ndepicted from 06N-10N between 15W-33W. \n \n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nA weak 1018 mb high centered over the N central Gulf near 29N88W\nis leading toward gentle winds across the entire Gulf today.\nIsolated moderate convection is occurring from 24N-27N east of 87W\ndue to an upper-level low.\nFor the forecast, weak high pressure in place over the region \nwill generally allow for moderate or weaker winds and slight to \nmoderate seas across the Gulf through the next few days. The \npresence of abundant tropical moisture will favor scattered \nshowers and isolated thunderstorms mainly in the eastern Gulf \nthrough the weekend.\n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nA weak pressure gradient from the Bermuda High north of the area \nto a 1010 mb Colombian Low is forcing fresh to locally strong \ntrades only in the S central Caribbean with seas 5-6 ft. \nElsewhere, winds are moderate or weaker with seas 1-4 ft. A \nsurface trough extends from central Cuba to near 20N80W with \nisolated showers and thunderstorms near the trough and over E \nCuba.\nFor the forecast, he trough will continue moving WNW through Thu \nnight while becoming diffuse. Elsewhere across the basin, the \npressure gradient between the subtropical ridge and relatively \nlower pressure in northern South America will maintain mostly \nfresh trades along with moderate seas over the central Caribbean, \nand over the western portion of the eastern Caribbean through Sat \nnight. These trades are forecast to increase to fresh to strong \nspeeds while expanding in coverage over the south-central portion \nof the basin beginning Sun. Winds reaching near gale are expected \nMon night and Tue night near Colombia and in the Gulf of \nVenezuela. Fresh to strong east winds are expected in the Gulf of \nHonduras Fri night and Mon night. Elsewhere, moderate or weaker \nwinds and slight to moderate seas will continue across the \nremainder of the basin during the period.\n \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nThe pressure gradient between a weak 1019 mb Bermuda High at\n33N72W and lower pressure over the ITCZ and monsoon trough is\nforcing only moderate to locally fresh trades with seas 3-6 ft. \nThe only exceptions are fresh to locally strong NE winds with \nseas 6-8 ft off of the coast of Western Sahara and the Canary \nIslands. In addition to the convection noted over the Atlantic due\nto the two tropical waves, a surface trough interacting with an\nupper-level low is forcing scattered moderate and isolated strong\nconvection from 25N-30N between 74W-79W.\nFor the forecast west of 55W, scattered showers and thunderstorms\nwill continue over the waters W of about 70W through the rest of \nthe week as a mid-level low and surface trough gradually shift \nwestward while at the same time abundant tropical moisture remains\nin place. A cold front will then approach from the NW Sat through\nSun night enhancing the potential for scattered and thunderstorms\nover the NW portion of the area. Moderate to fresh east to \nsoutheast winds are over the waters south of about 27N between 70W\nand 77W. Otherwise, the subtropical ridge will provide for \ngenerally moderate or weaker winds and moderate seas over the \nforecast waters. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1206907694352629763", "issued": "2026-09-02T00:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1206907694352629763"}
