Lowell is\nmoving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h). A motion between west \nand west-northwest is expected for the next few days.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher\ngusts. Rapid intensification is forecast over the next 48 hours, and \nLowell is expected to become a major hurricane by Wednesday.\n \nTropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km)\nfrom the center.\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 995 mb (29.39 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nSURF:  Swells generated by Lowell are likely to affect portions of\nthe Hawaiian Islands beginning around mid-week.
