{"msg": "548\nAXNT20 KNHC 282245\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n0015 UTC Fri Aug 28 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through\n2245 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES...\nAtlantic Gale Warning: The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly will \napproach waters east of the Leeward Islands Sat as a strong \ntropical wave, bringing gale conditions and very rough seas. \nStrong winds, rough seas, and thunderstorms will spread into the \nfar NE Caribbean, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico late this \nweekend into early next week in association with this tropical \nwave.\nPlease read the latest HIGH SEAS FORECAST issued by the National\nHurricane Center at website\n- https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFAT2.shtml\n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nA tropical wave is along 28W, south of 16N, moving westward at \n10 to 15 kt. Only a few showers are near the wave axis. \nA tropical wave is along 48W, south of 20N, moving westward around\n15 kt. A 1009 mb low pressure, remnants of T.S. Dolly, is along \nthe wave axis near 15N48W. A cluster of moderate to isolated\nstrong convection is within about 150 nm NW quadrant of low center.\nFresh to strong winds and rough seas are noted on either side of\nthe wave axis per scatterometer and altimeter data covering the \nwaters from 13N to 20N between 40W and 50W.\nA tropical wave is over the central Caribbean with axis near 78W, \nmoving westward at around 20 kt. The wave appears to enhance convection\nover parts of eastern Cuba and Jamaica. \n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough extends from the coast of Mauritania near 18N16W\nto 10N23W to 06N34W. The ITCZ extends from 06N34W to 09N45W.\nConvection is limited.\n \n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nScattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are affecting the\nnorther Gulf waters, mainly N of 26N. This convective activity \nis ahead of a surface trough, that extends from a 1014 mb low \npressure located near 29N87W to 27N90W to 28N94W. A weak ridge\ndominates the remainder of the basin. Under this pattern, gentle\nto locally moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevail. \nWinds and seas could be higher near thunderstorms.\nFor the forecast, weak high pressure will persist across the \nGulf waters through early next week, supporting moderate or \nlighter winds and slight seas. Winds will pulse to fresh with \nmoderate seas off western Yucatan during the evenings due to a \ndiurnal surface trough moving west off the peninsula each night. \nA nearly- stationary front will meander near the northern Gulf \nwaters during the next few days producing a few thunderstorms. \nMariners can expect gusty winds and higher seas associated with \nthe stronger thunderstorms. \n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nThe subtropical ridge centered SW of the Azores supports fresh to\nstrong easterly trade winds and rough seas in the south-central \nCaribbean. Moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate seas \nare found in the eastern Caribbean, Gulf of Honduras and Windward\nPassage. Elsewhere, moderate or weaker winds and slight to \nmoderate seas prevail. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are \noccurring in the SW Caribbean.\nFor the forecast, the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly will \napproach waters east of the Leeward Islands Sat as a strong \ntropical wave, bringing gale conditions and very rough seas. \nStrong winds, rough seas, and thunderstorms will spread into the \nfar NE Caribbean, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico late this \nweekend into early next week in association with this tropical \nwave. Otherwise, the pressure gradient between high pressure \nnorth of the basin and lower pressure over South America will \nsupport strong trades and rough seas over the south-central \nCaribbean this weekend. These winds will diminish some early next\nweek as the aforementioned tropical wave disrupts the pressure \ngradient, but will increase again by the middle of next week. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nA Gale Warning is in affect in association the remnants of Dolly.\nPlease, refer to the Special Features section for more details. \nScattered showers, with embedded thunderstorms, dot the waters \nbetween Bermuda and the Bahamas, particularly N of 22N and W of \n65W. A diffluent pattern aloft is helping to induce this \nconvective activity. A ridge dominates the remainder of the \nAtlantic forecast waters, anchored on a 1029 mb high pressure \nlocated SW of the Azores near 36N32W. The ridge supports moderate\nto locally fresh easterly winds and moderate seas across much of\nthe SW North Atlantic. Aside from the winds and seas associated \nwith the remnants of Dolly, fresh to strong northerly winds and \nmoderate to rough seas are evident N of 20N and E of 18N to the \ncoast of W Africa, including the Canary Islands. Moderate to \nlocally fresh winds and moderate seas prevail elsewhere under the\ninfluence of the ridge. \nFor the forecast west of 55W, the strong tropical wave associated\nwith the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly will bring strong \nwinds, rough seas, and thunderstorms across the waters S of 22N \nas it approaches the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico late this \nweekend and spreads toward Hispaniola early next week. Elsewhere,\nthe subtropical ridge will dominate the SW N Atlantic waters \nover the next several days supporting mainly moderate or weaker \nwinds and moderate seas. Winds will pulse to locally strong off \nnorthern Hispaniola each night. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1205491321517670403", "issued": "2026-08-28T00:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1205491321517670403"}
