Karina is\nmoving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this\ngeneral motion is expected to continue over the next day or so,\nfollowed by a more westward turn.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.\nStrengthening is forecast and Karina is likely to become a hurricane\nover the weekend.\n\nTropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles (370 km)\nfrom the center.\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nSURF:  Swells generated by Karina will begin to affect portions of \nthe coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula \nthis weekend.
