{"msg": "432\nAXNT20 KNHC 271012\nTWDAT \nTropical Weather Discussion\nNWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL\n1215 UTC Thu Aug 27 2026\nTropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America\nGulf of America, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South\nAmerica, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the\nEquator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite\nimagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.\nBased on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through \n1005 UTC.\n...SPECIAL FEATURES... \nEastern Tropical Atlantic (Invest AL96): Satellite imagery\nindicate that showers and thunderstorms associated with an area \nof low pressure, located several hundred miles west-southwest of \nthe Cabo Verde Islands, have become better organized tonight. If \nthe current trends continue, advisories could be initiated on a \nshort-lived tropical depression or storm later today. However, \nenvironmental conditions are expected to become hostile beginning \non Friday, likely ending its chances for development. This system \nhas a high chance of tropical cyclone formation through the next \n48 hours and 7 days.\nPlease refer to the latest NHC Tropical Weather Outlook issued by \nthe National Hurricane Center at website: \nhttps://www.hurricanes.gov/text/MIATWOAT.shtml for more details on \nthis feature.\nCaribbean Gale Warning: A tight pressure gradient between the \nsubtropical ridge north of the area and the Colombian low will \nsupport fresh to strong easterly trade winds and rough to very\nrough seas through the forecast period. Winds will pulse to gale-force\ntonight off Colombia. \nPlease refer to the latest HIGH SEAS FORECAST issued by the National \nHurricane Center at website - \nhttps://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIAHSFAT2.shtml for more details. \n...TROPICAL WAVES...\nAn eastern Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 64W, south of \n21N, moving westward at 15-20 kt. No significant convection is \nobserved with this wave.\nA central Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 80W, south of 20N,\nmoving westward at 15-20 kt. No significant deep convection is \noccurring with this wave.\n...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...\nThe monsoon trough extends from the coast of Mauritania near \n19N16W to 11N38W. The ITCZ continues from 11N38W to 10N59W. \nScattered moderate to isolated strong convection is occurring from\n04N to 15N and east of 23W.\n \n...GULF OF AMERICA...\nA few showers and isolated thunderstorms are noted in the northern\nGulf waters and off western Florida. A weak pressure gradient\nacross the basin supports light to gentle winds and moderate \nseas. \nFor the forecast, weak high pressure will persist across the Gulf\nwaters through early next week, supporting moderate or weaker \nwinds and slight seas. Winds will pulse to fresh to locally strong\nwith moderate seas off western Yucatan during the evenings due to\na diurnal surface trough moving west off the peninsula each \nnight. A frontal boundary will meander near the northern Gulf \nwaters during the next few days producing scattered showers and \nisolated thunderstorms. Mariners can expect gusty winds and higher\nseas associated with these storms.\n...CARIBBEAN SEA...\nPlease see the Special Features section above for details on the \nGale Warning in effect for the waters off Colombia.\nA few showers and isolated thunderstorms are evident in the Gulf \nof Honduras, SE Caribbean and off Panama and Costa Rica. Drier\nconditions are noted elsewhere. Outside of the Gale Warning area,\nfresh to strong easterly trade winds and moderate seas are present\nin the north-central Caribbean. Moderate to locally fresh trades\nand moderate seas are occurring in the Windward Passage and the \nrest of the Caribbean south of 18N. North of 18N, light to gentle \nwinds and slight seas are prevalent.\nFor the forecast, a tight pressure gradient between the subtropical\nridge north of the area and the Colombian low will support fresh\nto strong easterly trade winds and rough seas to locally very\nrough seas in the south-central Caribbean through the forecast \nperiod. Winds will pulse to gale-force tonight off Colombia. \nWinds will pulse to fresh to locally strong in the Windward \nPassage at night. An area of low pressure, Invest AL96, currently \nlocated in the eastern Atlantic has a high chance of tropical \ndevelopment over the next couples of days. The system will bring \nincreasing winds and seas to portions of the Tropical N Atlantic \nthis weekend. \n...ATLANTIC OCEAN...\nPlease refer to the Special Features section for more details on\nan area of low pressure, Invest AL96, that has a high chance of \ntropical cyclone formation.\nA surface trough located SE of Bermuda is producing a few showers\nnorth of 26N and between 58W and 63W. Similar convection is found\nin the waters off NE Florida. The SW North Atlantic is dominated\nby a weak high pressure area that supports moderate or lighter\nwinds and moderate seas, west of 60W.\nA cold front extends from Morocco to 26N22W to 28N34W, followed by\na stationary front north of our area. Broad high pressure also \nprevails across the central and eastern tropical Atlantic, \nmaintaining moderate to locally fresh easterly winds and moderate \nseas.\nFor the forecast west of 55W, the subtropical ridge will dominate\nthe SW N Atlantic waters over the next several days supporting \nmainly moderate or weaker winds and slight to moderate seas. Winds\nwill pulse to fresh to locally strong off northern Hispaniola at \nnight. An area of low pressure, Invest AL96, currently located in \nthe eastern Atlantic has a high chance of tropical development \nover the next couple of days. The system will bring increasing \nwinds and seas to portions of the southeast waters this weekend. \n", "title": "Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion", "id": "1205060089079595011", "issued": "2026-08-27T12:15:00Z", "wmo": "AXNT20", "source": "NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center, received via the National Weather Wire Service", "page": "https://hurricane.terrapin.com/text/1205060089079595011"}
