Watches may be required for a portion of \nthe Hawaiian Islands tonight or Friday.\n \n \nDISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK\n----------------------\nAt 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Two-C\nwas located near latitude 11.9 North, longitude 143.1 West. The\ndepression is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph, and \nthis general motion is expected during the next few days.  On the \nforecast track, the center of the system is expected to pass near \nor south of the Big Island of Hawaii this weekend.\n \nMaximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.\nGradual strengthening is forecast, and the depression could become \na tropical storm later today.\n \nThe estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).\n \n \nHAZARDS AFFECTING LAND\n----------------------\nKey messages for Tropical Depression Two-C can be found in\nthe Tropical Cyclone Discussion under AWIPS header HFOTCPCP3 and\nWMO header WTPA43 PHFO.\n\nRAINFALL: The tropical depression is expected to produce rainfall \ntotals of 5 to 10 inches with maximum amounts of 15 inches across \nthe Big Island.  Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches with maximum \namounts of 5 inches are expected across the remainder of the \nHawaiian Islands this weekend and early next week.  This rainfall \nmay produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in \nsteep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.\n\nSURF:  Swells generated by the depression are expected to affect \nportions of the Hawaiian Islands ths weekend, and could cause\nlife-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
